Designing Geospatial Tools to Address Maternal and Infant Health Disparities: Analyzing Low Birth Weight Patterns
20th International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST 2025), 15703, 137–150
Abstract
This study explores the use of geospatial analysis to address regional disparities in low birth weight (LBW) rates across California. By creating a spatial visualization tool, the research highlights the socioeconomic and environmental factors influencing LBW such as income, healthcare access and education. The tool provides policymakers and healthcare providers with actionable insights to inform targeted interventions and is evaluated by public-health subject-matter experts for usability and effectiveness.
